That…Incident

Graphic that says "Scandal" in red

The word incident makes us think of the family scandal no one talks about (but everyone whispers).

“That…incident…”

Yet this is the word for when cybersecurity fails its mission of confidentiality, availability, and/or integrity.

And we MUST talk about it.

Also – just the dictionary definition of incident doesn’t do the word much service for us in talking with non-cybersecurity colleagues and friends.

Definition 1: “A particular occurrence, especially one of minor importance. synonym: occurrence.”

Definition 2: “An event in a narrative or drama.”

Definition 3: “A usually violent or disruptive occurrence, especially one that precipitates a larger crisis.”

It’s kind of like the word “abate” can mean slow or stop.

Social engineering can be explained fraud + something digital.

We can explain these concepts better with native everyday words leading the conversation…and then explaining the terms.

Thoughts? (Just make new German words?)
